Grow with it

I have shared before about what I call the parallel journey. It is a principle I have seen in my own life where I am often learning about something as I am doing that job. I am sure it is something that many people can relate to.

There is an expression that if often used of “being thrown in the deep end”, which in explanation says that this is the best way to learn how to swim.

If we are kicked off the diving board and forced to learn how to swim, we often achieve things that we would not have because we were left with no other choice. The critical factor is that we have to be continually learning. If we chose to sink to the bottom of the pool after being kicked in to that elusive deep end, well I am sure we all know what the outcome would be. Instead of thrashing our arms and legs around, we will eventually learn how to keep ourselves afloat, and in that we also become efficient at doing so.

My number one excuse for training and learning that I use, and that many people use as well, is the fact that we do not have time.  That is actually true if we look at learning and education in its traditional form. For example, to enroll yourself in a weekly course and attend it for six months to become an expert( or at least knowledgeable on a particular topic) takes a considerable time commitment.

However, we are a spoiled generation when it comes to different mediums for learning and education. I contribute my business knowledge, and particularly around web design and building online businesses, to the school of podcasting.

This is not an official school that you will find but rather dozens of different podcast that I subscribed to and consumed every piece of content that they were producing. Whenever I was driving, working or doing anything that I would normally listen to music, I switch it on and started listening to content related to the field I wanted to become an expert in. This is one medium that you can use to consume information.

Whatever method fits your lifestyle and your type of learning, then utilize it and replace time that could otherwise be wasted ,with beneficial time that aids in your growth and your knowledge.
