Is it Ethical?

The number one objection I have from people regarding my views on outsourcing is that what I do is not ethical. In honesty, I can see why they would assume that, but in reality it is a very naive approach to assume that outsourcing is exploitation without doing any research into it. I talk about this topic in my free e-book, Outsource Made Simple, in the chapter about debunking the myths of outsourcing.

I can honestly say that one of the key motivations I have for working with my team from the Philippines is not because of the inexpensive pay rates they require, but due to my selfish desire to want to help people.

Filipino
I have spent more years outsourcing to other countries and more developed regions of the world than I have to the Philippines, but I get the greatest reward when I hear feedback from my current team on their improved quality of life from receiving a good income compared to their peers.

The other view that I face from critics is what is better termed as ‘off shoring’ than outsourcing. I often get challenged about employing people locally to boost the economy of my country. Again I understand their point of view but don’t completely subscribe to it. I am boosting the Australian economy from the exporting of services that I provide to all parts of the world. My small business does not reach only an audience within a close geographical distance to me, but this small business reaches all areas of the world with it’s products and services.

My personal and spiritual beliefs actually drove me to outsource to a remote country like the Philippines. Am I using that as a justification for cheap labor? No, definitely not! I do see the benefit and the cost savings of using this team from the Philippines, however I do see the benefit that they receive in a greater capacity than my own.
