I have some relatives who are very keen gardeners. Their backyard is immaculate, their lawn is always perfect and they spend a lot of time outside attending to their gardens.

When I think of gardening however, I think of one weekend a year where I can dedicate that time to get it all done and then leave it to look after itself for some time.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know that that is not how a garden works. It is continually growing and it is continually changing. It is something that always needs to be attended to and worked upon.

I personally remember when I finished recruiting my first team, sitting back with a sigh in my office chair like I had finished the project but the reality was that recruiting was the beginning of a task that never ends. Your team, their skills and experience and the way you interact with them is something that needs to be constantly developed and strengthened as you begin to use your team. You need to continue to improve the way that you manage them, coach them and add value to them and therefore your business.
